As Chicago wedding planners, we love working with couples who adore this city as much as we do. Cecilia and Trey were that couple and then some! Although not native Chicagoans, they shared their first home here (and are still proud residents). They couldn’t wait to share Chicago with friends and family during their wedding weekend, giving everyone a chance to see why they fell in love with the city, and, just maybe, fall in love with it themselves.
We’re proud to share that People featured Cecilia and Trey’s wedding at 167 Events!
A Quintessentially Chicago Wedding Weekend
Cecilia and Trey envisioned a celebration that lasted all week, not just one day. So we helped them create a multi-day itinerary featuring some of their favorite Chicago activities. They invited guests to join them for a Cubs game—a special treat for Cecilia’s father, a baseball enthusiast—and the Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise. They hoped guests would plan a mini-vacation around the wedding, and many did! By presenting Chicago as a destination and highlighting its significance to their story, they created a fun and meaningful experience for everyone.
The celebrating continued with the couple’s rehearsal dinner at Formento’s and welcome party at Emporium. They intentionally chose these venues, both much-loved West Loop establishments. Close to guests’ lodging and the wedding venue at 167 Events, they also reflected Cecilia and Trey’s deep connection to the neighborhood. They’ve spent considerable time in the West Loop and knew they wanted it to be the central location for their wedding weekend.
A Colorful and Theatrical Wedding at 167 Events
Cecilia and Trey, both actors who met at a Shakespeare Festival, wanted their wedding and reception to reflect their exuberant personalities and flair for the dramatic. They envisioned a colorful Chicago garden party, and large, artistic centerpieces were a must.
We assembled a vendor team that could deliver just that! Yanni Design Studio created the masterful florals, including an immersive ceremony installation that lined both aisles and culminated in a lush broken arch. Their reception designs were equally jaw-dropping, from the colorful blooms flanking the sweetheart table to the hanging installations overhead. Then there was the cake from ECBG Cake Studio: four towering tiers frosted with a Lambeth-inspired design and covered in a cascade of brightly colored flowers. And 167 Events, situated on the 17th floor of a West Loop high-rise, put the “Chicago” in it all, with panoramic skyline views.
The couple’s affinity for the arts showed up in more than just the decor. Friends who are also involved in theatre sang during the ceremony, while others read a collection of Shakespeare’s words on love. Artistrings provided live music during the processional and recessional, and the Jordan Kahn Orchestra played to a packed dance floor at the reception.
Cecilia and Trey’s wedding at 167 Events was truly one of our favorite celebrations we’ve ever been part of. Joining the couple in their mission to share why they love Chicago—and wrapping it all up in a beautiful, design-forward event—is what we’re all about.
